Wood County Courthouse

WOOD COUNTY COURTHOUSE
In 1801, a house of hewn logs was built for a permanent courthouse which served until 1817.

The next courthouse, a handmade brick building, was erected on the present courthouse square. This facility was used from 1817 until 1860.

Then, a brick and stone structure became the courthouse.

The present courthouse is a huge stone edifice which was completed in 1899. It is a modified Romanesque style with ornate turrets, balconies and interesting symbolic carvings and is constructed of native stone masonry. A fountain enhances the approach on the front plaza.
