Upshur County Courthouse

UPSHUR COUNTY COURTHOUSE

From 1851 through 1854, court was held in a number of places. The first courthouse served the citizens of the county until 1899. It was then torn down and construction was started on the present building.

The present courthouse was completed in 1901. The brick exterior is particularly handsome because of the quality of the red brick and the fine mortar bonds. The interior was remodeled in 1972-75 for over $500,000 making it modern and efficient. Visitors have commented on the marble in the lobby.
