TYLER COUNTY COURTHOUSE

After the county seat moved to its present location in Middlebourne, a two-story brick building became the first permanent courthouse in 1852. Residents decided to expand the facility by adding a wing in the rear, thus making it a T-shaped structure.

At that time, the old building and the new addition were faced with identical brick which gave unity to the whole. Stone and brick were hauled via streetcars for the face-lifting of the old portion and the erection of the new wing. This was in 1922, the same year the town was introduced to electricity. This building is on the National Historic Register.
