Taylor County Courthouse

TAYLOR COUNTY COURTHOUSE

In 1801, Pruntytown was the county seat. The first courthouse, a colonial-type building was completed in 1849. It featured massive columns reaching from the ground level to the roof.

Because Grafton became the hub for the B&O Railroad, citizens voted to change the location of the county seat from Pruntytown to Grafton.

In 1880, the present brown brick courthouse was completed. It was built with corner towers, balconies, the Justice figure, prominent chimneys and an arched entrance. All of the Victorian details, including the towers, have not been removed. An annex was finished in 1975.
