RALEIGH COUNTY COURTHOUSE

The Beckley Schoolhouse was used for the first sessions of court. The first permanent courthouse was erected in 1852, at a cost of $2,722. It served the citizens for forty-one years.

A second structure was completed in 1893.

The present courthouse was built in 1937. It was constructed around the second building. Five hundred thousand dollars was needed to pay the contractor at that time.
