PUTNAM COUNTY COURTHOUSE

The first permanent courthouse was completed in 1850. It was a two-story brick building and was used until September, 1899 when a severe windstorm destroyed it.

A portion of the material from the original courthouse was used in construction of the present courthouse. It is also a two-story brick building. The current building, which was completed in 1900, has an octagon shaped tower at each corner and the northeasterly tower contains a bell. It is nearly square it is of simple architectural design. An annex was erected in 1946.
