Pendleton County Courthouse

PENDLETON COUNTY COURTHOUSE
Franklin , the county seat, was formerly known as Frankford. The town was originally chartered in 1794 by the Legislature of Virginia.Records indicated that the first courthouse cost around $160 and was a log composition.

A permanent courthouse of brick was completed in 1817. A contract for a second courthouse was let in 1889. A fire destroyed this building after I had served the citizens for 35 years.

two-story red brick structure, built in 1926, serves as the current courthouse. Six large columns with Ionic capitals support the triangular pediment at the front entrance. Filigreed brackets are used for trim around the roof.
