NICHOLAS COUNTY COURTHOUSE

A two-story frame building, 30’ x 40’, became the first courthouse in 1820.

A two-story square building with rusticated stone walls was erected in 1895. Works Progress Administration (WPA) funds financed an expansion.

In 1940, Architect Levi J. Dean styled a stone, Art Deco inspired rear wing that blends sympathetically with the older building.
