Mason County Courthouse

MASON COUNTY COURTHOUSE

The towns of Mason City and Point Pleasant competed for the location of the county seat in 1811. Point Pleasant was chosen because Mason City had declined in population and power. A building constructed from native stone was erected there for the courthouse in 1857.

The identical site was used for the present courthouse which was completed in 1956. This sandstone building is modern and simple in design. There is an impression cut into the side of the current courthouse depicting the image of the former courthouse.
