MARION COUNTY COURTHOUSE

This three-story structure of Cleveland sandstone was erected in the years 1897-1900. It has a clock tower surmounted by a copper statute of the Justice figure. Six heavy columns support the gable which extends over the pavement in front of the door. Ornamental pediments, fluted Corinthian columns and elevated porticoes make up its exterior style. Stained glass enhances the rotunda and three curved alcoves as viewed from the lobby. Gray marble is used for the banisters, wainscoting and flooring.

The J. Harper Meredith Building (City-County Complex) was dedicated November 6, 1982 . It is attached with a walkway to the older courthouse.
