Kanawha County Courthouse

KANAWHA COUNTY COURTHOUSE

The courthouse is comprised of three sections constructed separately, but influenced by the Romanesque Revival style of architecture. Locally quarried stone was used in its construction. The central portion, with its three-story medieval tower was built in 1892. The segment facing Kanawha Boulevard was built in 1917, and the largest section, boasting twin towers connected by a five-arched loggia, was constructed in 1924.

A “Justice” statue used to adorn the tower facing Court Street, but it disappeared during the 1930s.

An annex has been completed across the street on the north side.
