Hardy County Courthouse

HARDY COUNTY COURTHOUSE

Hardy County ’s first courthouse was made of logs and stood on Main Street . That courthouse was replaced by a brick edifice in 1792. The building still retains it original appearance, but it no longer serves as a courthouse.

In 1859, a brick courthouse was built on the west side of Main Street . It was used until 1912 as the courthouse. Although a front portion has been added for business purposes, the western end of the structure is part of the 1859 courthouse.

The present three-story red brick courthouse is located on Washington Street and was constructed about 1914.
