HAMPSHIRE COUNTY COURTHOUSE

A red brick courthouse with four white columns which supported a large gabled roof was built in 1833. This building was used for ninety years when it was torn down.

A new courthouse was then constructed in 1922. It is located on the identical site as the previous one. The two-story cream-colored brick structure is of early colonial design. A wide portico supports four large sandstone columns with Doric capitals. It houses many old deeds and wills with signatures of people of colonial days who lived in Virginia.
