Grant County Courthouse

GRANT COUNTY COURTHOUSE

Amidst controversy over the location of the seat of government, the Grant County Courthouse was built in Petersburg during 1878-79. Alterations resulting in its current form were conducted in 1909 from a design by Maryland architect George F. Sansbury. The old courthouse, which is on the National Historical Register, is a Neoclassical structure. A 1960s addition is at the southwest corner and a World War I Memorial stands near the entrance.

An ultramodern facility, the present courthouse was completed on September 20, 1976 . It is located several blocks from the older one.
