Cabell County Courthouse

CABELL COUNTY COURTHOUSE

The county seat was moved from the town of Guyandotte to Barboursville in 1814. It remained there seventy years. In 1887, the county seat was moved to its present location, Huntington.
The present courthouse is a two-story Beaux Art Classical structure located on a par-like square. It was constructed between 1899 and 1901, with west and east additions being built in 1924 and 1940 respectively. It is built of Berea sandstone and is topped with a copper roof. Paired pilasters with composite capitals support a wide frieze. The central portion is capped by a vertical dome and clock tower.
The courthouse is on the National Historical Register.
