Exterior |
The
Wood County Magistrate Court was built in the 1960’s. The building is one story and is
approximately 15,000 square feet. Exterior

Walls |
The foundation of the building is concrete and
appears to be in good condition. The wall on the west side of the building is
brick. All other exterior walls are metal.

Roof |
The
roof on the front of the building is flat and the back is low-pitched metal. Both
are in good condition. The roof is original to the construction of the
building. |

Windows
and Doors |
All the windows in the building are original to
the building’s construction and are in good condition. Most are aluminum framed,
double-glazed. Some are single-glazed and are fixed. All the doorways are in
good condition, swing in the direction of the exit and are equipped with

Fire
Safety |
There
is an Edwards fire alarm system throughout the building with manual
detection, strobes and horns. P25
There are illuminated exit signs and emergency lights with power back up.
There are two ways out of the courtroom. There is no sprinkler system. |

ADA Compliance
|
There
is ADA parking for the building and is well marked with paint and signs. P44 The
main entrance is at ground level and is ADA compliant. P45 The
entrance door is somewhat difficult to open but is equipped with a
buzzer. There is lack of raised letter
signage throughout the corridors and on the doors. There are men’s and
women’s ADA restrooms. P3 P4 The
doors are not equipped with lever hardware. |

Security |
The
building is equipped with a security alarm system. There is a metal detector
at the entrance door. P10 There
is a closed circuit TV system. The judge’s bench is protected with ballistic
material and a duress button in one courtroom. The small courtroom on the
north side is not equipped with ballistic material. |
Install ballistic material
on the other judge’s bench. Install entry-level
screening including X-ray machine and walk through metal detectors. Install duress alarms in
courtrooms, judicial chambers and other court related office. Limit access to building
other than entry-level screening. The
other doors should be secured with audible alarms. Install ballistic material
on all the inside of the judge’s benches. Install phone line to provide
court and staff with outside communication in case of power outage. Install CCTV in the
courtroom, halls, and the exterior of the building . Security console. Install duress buttons on
the other judge’s bench and desk. |

Electrical |
The
communications panel in the building is a Merlin Legend in excellent
condition. The main distribution panel is a 400 amp square D. There are two 275
amp breaker panel and a 100 amp breaker panel, all of which are in excellent

The lighting in the building is fluorescent and is in excellent condition. |

Mechanical |
The
water heater is a 30 gallon A.O. Smith that is in excellent condition. P20
The HVAC system is a gas fired furnace and air conditioning combination with outside
condensing units on the roof. They appear to be in good condition. |

Work
Safety |
No
work safety issues were noted during the inspection. |
|
|
|
Space
requirements |
Space
is limited for storage in the courthouse complex. Documents are being stored
off site and that storage is full. Judges need more filing space. More room
is needed for the handling of ballots for elections. |
A
30,000 square foot annex is proposed in the main courthouse report to
accommodate the growing complex. |
