General Exterior |
The Pendleton County Jail is in very poor condition. It is a two-story brick structure with a one story brick addition on the rear. It has a large crack in the exterior brick wall that runs between the two story side and the one story side. The building is in poor repair having a leaking roof and old windows |
The Jail building is abandoned and is in very poor condition. We recommend razing the building. |

Exterior Walls |
The exterior of the courthouse is brick with major cracking and the mortar is in need of re-pointing. |

Roof |
The metal roof is leaking and should be replaced, if the building is to be reused. |

Windows and Doors |
The windows are wood with rotten sills and should be replaced with historic sashes. |

|
Fire Safety |
The building does not have sprinklers, fire alarms, exit signs, or emergency lights. |

Structure
|
There is significant cracking in the exterior all of the structure. |

Security |
Except for door locks there is no security in this building. |
|

|
Electrical |
The electrical system is antiquated and should be replaced. |

|
Mechanical |
The existing heating system is a boiler with supply pipes cast into the floor. The pipes are apparently leaking steam and the floor becomes unbearably hot. |

Work Safety |
The building is abandoned and poses a hazard to the courthouse next door. |

Space requirements |
The county has a study by Sean G. Simon, AIA Architect, dated October 15, 2002, recommending the Jail be razed. He proposed that it would cost $918,000 to repair the jail building and still it would not serve the county’s needs. |
