General Exterior

The St. Margaret’s Building was constructed in 1909, (P1). It has been totally refurbished inside and out. It is in excellent condition. It is located at North George Street across from the left side of the main courthouse. It is a very busy building. The building has three floors plus a basement.  The building houses the magistrate courts.

 

 

 

Exterior Walls

The exterior is brick with stone accents.  It is in excellent condition.

 

 

 

Roof

The building has a flat roof which is in good condition.

 

 

 

Windows and Doors

The windows and doors were replaced or repaired during the renovation.  They are all in good condition.

 

 

 

Fire Safety

The fire safety systems are very good.  There is a fire alarm system, with detectors, horns and strobes.  There are exit lights and emergency lighting.

 

 

 

Structure

 

The building structurally is in good condition.  Any concerns were addressed during the renovation.

 

 

 

 

ADA Compliance

The building entrance is accessible.  The bathrooms should have been made compliant during the renovation. 

 

 

 

Security

The building has metal detectors and officers on duty.

 

Provide limited access to the building with the following:

     X-ray machine

     Move the metal detector to the public entry

     Card access system for employees

     Alarmed exit doors

     Security cameras

 

Install ballistic materials on benches and clerk’s desk.

 

Install duress alarms as needed.

Electrical

The electrical systems were upgraded during the renovation.  They are in good condition.

The mechanical systems were upgraded during the renovation.  They are in good condition.

There were no work safety issues noted.

 

 

 

Space requirements

The basement is used for storage and is quickly filling up, (P2, P3, P4).  The office space is currently adequate.
