General Exterior

The jail was closed in 2000 due to the opening of the regional jail. The jail is an old house with brick masonry combined with an old stone jail with painted block. The facility is located just beside the WPA annex (separate report). Part of the building was constructed in the 1850’s and the other parts were constructed in the 1930’s. The building is 5426 square feet.

We recommend demolishing the existing building. The proposed new judicial annex would be built in the space that this jail occupies.

Exterior Walls

The brick on the old house and the block on the old jail are in good condition.

 

 

Roof

There are three separate roof systems. The old house has a pitched asphalt shingle roof. The jail has a flat roof.

 

 

Windows and Doors

The windows and doors are old. Some are aluminum and some are wood. They are in fair condition. P1

 

 

Fire Safety

There are fire extinguishers throughout the building. There is a fire alarm system present. P3 There is no emergency lighting in the building.

Structure

 

There were no noticeable structural problems noted during the inspection.

 

 

Security

There are no security cameras. There are no metal detectors.

Electrical

Window AC units are being used to cool the building.

 

 

Work Safety

Dark and dreary. Poor lighting throughout.

This is a cramped building due to its irregular layout.
