General Exterior |
The jail was built in 1953. It is a three-story building with offices and storage on the first floor, and holding cells on floors two and three, (P34, P35, P41). It is approximately 5,000 square feet. The building sits behind and to the left of the main courthouse. |

Windows and Doors |
The doors are wooden. There is one exit from the first floor, an exit from between the first and second floors, (P13), an exit from the second floor, and emergency exits where the cells are located. The doors are in poor condition with cracked stops, no thresholds and water damage at the bottom. The locks work properly. The doors near the cells are emergency exits and sound an alarm when opened. The windows are original, single paned (P26), and are covered with metal for protection. The old caulking is a problem allowing air infiltration. |
Replace the doors with secure steel doors with panic hardware. Remove the screens and replace the windows with energy efficient aluminum clad windows. |
