Front of Courthouse
The
The windows are steel, and are original to the building. There is rust around the windows and the caulking is either missing or old. We recommend cleaning and repainting the windows and install insulated glazing throughout. The doors are hollow metal frames with glass, and the door hardware is in good shape.
The building has manual detectors, smoke detectors, heat detectors, strobes and horns. The doors on the exit stairs do not always swing in the direction of the exit, and there are not two ways out from every floor. We recommend creating a second exit out of the first floor and changing the some of the swing direction of the doors in the stairs.

this building up to
This building has damage to the downstairs ceiling due to drainage, restrooms, and condensation from the air conditioner. We recommend repairing the water damage.
To increase security in this building, we recommend equipping the building with an entry-level screening with an X-ray machine and walk through metal detector. We also recommend all other doors should be protected with a card access system. Exit doors except the main entrance should be protected with audible alarms, magnetic contacts and crash bars. In addition, the closed circuit television system should be upgraded throughout the secure areas of the courthouse. We also recommend duress alarms be installed beneath the judge’s desk, secretary’s desk, judge’s bench in the courtroom, hearing table in the jury room, and the clerk’s desk. The family court should be provided with duress alarms. Two duress alarms should be installed, one beneath. the front counter and one beneath an office desk. Duress alarms should be installed beneath the magistrates’ desks magistrates’ assistants’ desks, and the bench in the courtroom. In addition, the judge’s bench and clerk’s desk should be protected on the front and sides that have public exposure with ballistic material, and all light switches should be replaced with key-controlled switches, and breaker boxes should be locked.
The electrical system needs to be upgraded. The mechanical systems in the building are in good condition. The plumbing in the building has begun to be problematic. We recommend repairing the plumbing.
There has been a request for additional storage space. We recommend building an annex building to include 10,000 square feet of storage area.
Total cost of this project: $2,246,280.
